Oásis Supermercados, Brazilian Supermarket Chain Starts Accepting Cryptocurrency Payments

A Brazilian supermarket chain located in Rio de Janeiro, Oásis Supermercados has started to accept cryptocurrency payments. The Firm has consulted with a local exchange for assistance and had their employees trained on the procedure for the same.

A local news outlet Portal do Bitcoin reported that the chain’s clients in Rio de Janeiro can now use cryptocurrencies such as  Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin, to pay for their purchases. One of the firm’s managers Douglas Andrade spoke to the publication and noted that Thiago, his brother came up this idea after seeing a video explaining how to do it.

The video peaked their interest and Oásis Supermercados consulted a  crypto exchange for more information on the matter. Reportedly, the firm’s annual turnover is $6.5 million and it employs 90 people, 20 of which are cashiers.  Andrade noted that all of them have been trained to accept cryptocurrency payments. He was quoted as saying:

It’s really easy. It’s like a payment by credit card. The client says which cryptocurrency he wants to pay, the operator types in reais and the system already converts to that crypto. Then just scan the QR code and you’re done.

The supermarket employs CoinWISE for this job, the exchange firm will accept cryptocurrency and turn them into reais, sending it back to the chain’s account over three days after the payments were made. The recently implemented system hasn’t received any payment as of yet.

Andrade asserts that as the news will spread, payments in cryptocurrency will begin. He adds that some have already suggested them to start accepting other cryptocurrencies, including NANO.
